Briton dies in Siberia hike fall

A tourist from London has plunged 45ft to her death while hiking in Siberia.

Joanna Brown, 30, was trekking in the Irkutsk area when she fell, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said.

It is understood she was hiking around the shores of Lake Baikal with a friend and a local guide when the accident happened on Monday.

It is not clear how she came to fall but police are not thought to be investigating. Next of kin have been informed, the FCO said.

Ms Brown's guide was from the tour operator Baikal Complex, which offers trips over several days involving camping or accommodation in chalets and hotels.
