Falling tree crushes man to death

A workman died and two colleagues were injured when a falling tree crashed onto their van in high winds.

The 66-year-old was pronounced dead on the south side of Clapham Common, south London, at 1400 BST on Wednesday.

Of the two other men, in their 30s, one remains in hospital with serious back injuries and the other was released after suffering wounds to his arm.

Witnesses who may have captured the incident on their mobile phone have been asked to come forward.

The emergency services were called to the scene just after 1400 BST as winds gusted up to 45mph (72km/h).
