Guard shot in security van raid

A pensioner faces questioning after being arrested for a botched armed raid in north London which left a security guard with a gunshot wound.

The 67-year-old is being held after the attempted raid on a cash van near Sainsbury's in World's End Lane, Enfield, at 0040 BST on Wednesday.

The security guard's injuries are not life-threatening, police confirmed.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating why police discharged a firearm.

A report on the incident will be submitted to the IPCC.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "A security guard received gunshot injuries after shots were fired by the suspects.

"There was also the discharge of a firearm by police.

"We are not sure whether it was accidental or intended."

Two other men, aged 56 and 42, were arrested by police who were lying in wait for the suspects.

All three suspects were arrested at the scene by flying squad officers.
