A man has appeared in court charged with murdering two French students.

Nigel Farmer, 33, of no fixed address, is accused of murdering Gabriel Ferez and Laurent Bonomo, both 23, at a bedsit in New Cross, south-east London.

Police are continuing to question a man aged 35 and a woman, 25, arrested on Wednesday over the deaths on 29 June.

Mr Farmer, also charged with arson and attempting to pervert the course of justice, was remanded in custody by Greenwich magistrates until 16 October.

He is due to appear at the Old Bailey on that date.
