A 21-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a teenage girl who was stabbed to death in a housing estate in south London.

The body of Arsema Dawit was found in a lift at Matheson Lang House, Baylis Road, Waterloo, on Monday.

Arsema, who had turned 15 on Friday, is believed to have returned home to the block of flats when she was attacked.

Thomas Nugusse, a student from Ilford, east London, will appear in court on Thursday charged with her murder.

Paramedics arrived at the scene within four minutes but were unable to revive the teenager.

She died from multiple stab wounds.
