The mother of two children who were stabbed to death at their home has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

The 35-year-old woman, who has been in hospital since the incident in Carshalton, in south London, will be moved to a secure mental health unit.

The five-year-old boy and his sister, four, died on Friday. Their six-month-old sister was badly injured and is critically ill in hospital.

The father has been released without charge and faces no further action.

He has been bailed to return to a police station on another matter.

Police cordon

The names of the children and their parents have not been released by police. The dead children have yet to be formally identified.

The house in Park Lane where the children were found remained cordoned off on Sunday as the investigation continued.

The injured boy and girl died within 15 minutes of each other shortly after being taken to hospital.

The baby girl was said by police to be in a critical but stable condition in hospital after surgery.
