People are being given the chance to bid for exclusive tours around some of London's historic palaces.

A look around the hidden areas of the Tower of London or a roof top walk on Hampton Court Palace are being offered.

The money raised from the auction on the website eBay will go to the upkeep and restoration of the palaces.

Other tours on offer this month include a personal tour of the crown jewels, of Kew Palace and of the Royal Ceremonial dress collection.

A spokesman for the Historic Royal Palaces, an independent charity that looks after the attractions, said: "Members of the public are being invited to bid on these once-in-a-lifetime opportunities where they could find themselves on a private tour of the Crown Jewels or firing a siege engine in the Tower of London moat with TV presenter, Dan Snow."

The offered items are:

  • A personal tour of crown jewels
  • A visit to hidden spaces at the Tower of London
  • A roof top tour of Hampton Court Palace
  • A personal tour of Kew Palace
  • Attack the Tower of London with Dan Snow
  • Personal tour of the Royal Ceremonial dress collection

The eBay auction scheme is part of the national TopLots initiative.

The auction runs until 15 June.
