A young youth worker murdered near Brixton Tube station was killed in a "act of revenge", jurors have heard.

Nathan Foster, 18, was found by police with six bullet wounds in Marcus Garvey Way in August last year.

The Old Bailey heard the 17-year-old youth charged with Mr Foster's murder killed him in retaliation to being robbed of his gold chain.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested eight days later in Cambridge. He denies murder.

'Premeditated act'

Michael Shorrock QC, prosecuting, said the killing in August last year had been in revenge for an earlier incident when the chain was snatched from the youth's neck by another youth, Kori Bell.

Mr Shorrock told the jury: "You will conclude that the defendant thought that Nathan Foster had been in some way involved.

"His way of getting even was to arm himself and shooting him. It was a cold-blooded, premeditated act of revenge."

One bullet went through Mr Foster's heart and the majority of the .32 bullets had gone into his back as he turned and tried to run.

The trial continues.
