Elderly man charged with murder

An elderly man has been charged with the murder of a woman found dead in her east London home.

The body of 68-year-old Khalifa Ali was discovered in Ranelagh Road, Leytonstone, on Saturday evening. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination gave cause of death as pressure applied to the neck.

Christopher Byrne, 71, of no fixed address, will appear in custody at Waltham Forest Magistrates' Court on Tuesday morning.
