Man in court over priest attack
A 19-year-old man has been bailed after being charged with a faith-hate attack on a clergyman in the grounds of his east London church.

Canon Michael Ainsworth, 57, suffered cuts, bruises and two black eyes after confronting a gang outside St George-in-the-East Church, Shadwell.

Babul Islam, of Barnardo Street, Whitechapel is charged with religiously aggravated actual bodily harm.

Islam appeared at Thames Magistrate's Court and was remanded until 7 May.

Police are treating the attack as a faith-hate crime because of the type of abuse shouted at the Canon Ainsworth during the attack on 5 March.
