A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of an 18-year-old student whose mother found him beaten and stabbed to death.

Michael Alexander Jones was found dead at his home in Edmonton, north London, on Thursday afternoon.

A post-mortem examination revealed he died from severe head injuries and a stab wound to the chest.

A 45-year-old man, from Lower Edmonton, was arrested on Monday night and remains in custody.

Missing items

Police said they are trying to trace a gold chain, a ring and a pair of glasses that went missing from Mr Jones.

Officers are also looking for a blue 3 Series BMW with the registration number N118 FLA.

The chain has been described as a 9-carat gold chain about 18in to 20in long, which had a crucifix on it.

The ring, also made of gold, had MJ inscribed on it, with three white stones embedded in the letter M.

The third item is a pair of glasses with gunmetal frames, which Mr Jones is seen wearing in the picture.

Officers believe the jewellery could have been pawned.

Det Ch Insp John MacDonald said: "It appears at this stage that at least two items of Michael's jewellery and his glasses are missing.

"It is possible that the jewellery has been taken to a pawnbrokers or someone has bought them second hand," he added.

The officer said that Mr Jones' mother spoke to her son at about 0930 GMT on the day his body was found.

Officers are also trying to trace his movements between that call and 1700 GMT when his mother found Mr Jones' body.
