Police are looking for two men in connection with the killing

A woman was murdered close to her home as she walked back after a night shift, police have said.

Ade Pukeliene, 57, was found on Thursday on a pavement in Emerald Close, near Canary Wharf, east London, with head injuries.

Mrs Pukeliene, who worked as a cleaner, was taken to hospital but died later.

Officers believe she was returning home after her shift at an office complex in Canary Wharf and had left Royal Albert DLR station when she was attacked.

Mrs Pukeliene was a Lithuanian widow who lived with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchild.

She had lived in the UK for two years, police said.

No registration

Police are looking for two men who were reported leaving Emerald Close on a scooter or motorcycle and heading towards Jasper Road and on to Stansfeld Road at 0640 GMT on Thursday.

Detective Chief Inspector Carl Mehta said the scooter or motorcycle did not have a registration plate and was possibly grey or silver in colour.

Many people from that area would have been on their way to work, he said.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen Ade, and specifically two men on a scooter or motorcycle. We have sightings of them in the area from around 20 minutes before 7am.

"Anyone who may have seen such a vehicle, or have subsequently seen it abandoned, is asked to come forward and report to the incident room, or their local police station."
