Remand prisoner is found hanged
A prisoner awaiting trial has been found dead in his cell, the Prison Service has said.

Siumpalan Sathiyan, 29, a Sri Lankan national, was discovered hanging in his cell at Wormwood Scrubs prison in west London early on Sunday.

Prison officers tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at 0435 GMT.

Mr Sathiyan had been remanded on a charge of making a false instrument. A Prison Service spokesman said an investigation would be carried out.

He said: "Our sympathies are with the family and friends of Mr Sathiyan.

"As with all deaths in custody, there will be an investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman."
