Amelie Delagrange came to London to improve her English
A policeman has told a court how he discovered French student Amelie Delagrange lying in a pool of blood in west London.

Pc George Roberts was flagged down in his car soon after the 22-year-old was found on Twickenham Green, in August 2004, the Old Bailey heard.

Levi Bellfield, 39, of west London, denies murdering Miss Delagrange.

He also denies murdering Marsha McDonnell and the attempted murder of Irma Dragoshi.

Still breathing

Miss Delagrange was hit with a blunt object as she headed home after missing her bus following a night out with friends.

Mr Roberts told the court: "I remember immediately seeing that she was in a very bad condition. There was a large pool of blood surrounding her head.

"She didn't appear conscious and I knew that she was breathing because it was almost like she was snoring."

He said he went with her in an ambulance to hospital and was with her when she was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.

Mr Bellfield, a former wheel clamper and nightclub doorman, is accused of stalking women at bus stops.

Jurors also heard from Christopher Rayner whose house backs onto Twickenham Green.

Mr Rayner sais he was having dinner outside with his wife and nephew when he heard a scream, which he thought was at about 2150 BST.

"It was not clear, not that audible, but it was shouting and a scream. It was a female's scream.

"I heard something else. I can't say I heard anything distinctly audible, it was the sort of noise though that concerned me. It didn't sound nice."

As his wife and nephew did not notice the noise he did not raise the alarm but the next day, when he heard what had happened, he contacted the police.
