A woman assaulted by a man on a train after she asked him to move his feet, took a picture of the suspect on her mobile phone.

Police have released the photo taken by the 42-year-old victim who was hit across the face with a holdall at Gravesend station, Kent.

She had boarded the train to Charing Cross station and asked the man to move his feet and bag from the seats.

The suspect then hit her across the face with the bag.

"This was an unprovoked and completely random attack against a passenger who was simply asking for a seat," said PC Leigh Reid, from British Transport Police.

"Despite being left in shock, she kept her wits and used her phone to get a photo of the suspect, which shows him with his eyes closed."

The suspect is described as black, about 6ft 4ins tall, wore a dark-coloured suit jacket, white t-shirt and dark-coloured trousers. He was carrying a large tan-coloured holdall bag.

The attack happened at about 0800 BST on 27 June.
