Student tells court of car attack

A student has told an Old Bailey murder trial how a speeding car was driven at her and was then reversed so a wheel crushed her liver and tore her back.

Kate Sheedy, 21, suffered near-fatal injuries in the alleged attack in Isleworth, west London, in May 2004.

Levi Bellfield, 39, denies attempting to murder her and the murders of Amelie Delagrange and Marsha McDonnell.

He is accused of two other attacks on women in south-west London between October 2001 and August 2004.

Miss Sheedy, then 18, told the jury she was making her way home after celebrating her last day at school when a white people-carrier flashed its headlights, revved its engine and sped towards her.

"I was thrown to the ground lying on my front, so I was face down lying on the road.

"The car continued to move. It all happened very quickly. It drove straight over me," Miss Sheedy said.

"My head was under the car, but my legs were protruding out of the driver's side.

"Once the whole front wheel had driven over me it continued and then braked suddenly and then reversed so the wheel went back over me again."

She was left with a crushed liver and her lower back was torn open.

"My liver was the most life-threatening injury," she said.

"It was both crushed and fractured so couldn't actually function at that stage. I also had a very large laceration to my back. The whole lower bottom of my back had been ripped open."

After a year she made a full recovery and, now 21, is studying history and drama at university.

Mr Bellfield, a former nightclub doorman and wheelclamper, also denies attacking hairdresser Irma Dragoshi and teenager Anna-Maria Rennie. The case continues.
