Thousands attended Diwali event
Dancers perform at the Diwali on the Square event

Tens of thousands of people attended this years Diwali celebrations in Trafalgar Square.

Up to 30,000 people were at Diwali on the Square on Sunday, which included folk dance, Sikh martial arts, food stalls and henna painting.

The free event was organised by London's mayor and ended with thousands of mini lamps lit on the square.

The celebrations end the three-month India Now season in London, which highlighted Indian culture.

The Mayor of London Ken Livingstone said: "Diwali is an important occasion for London's Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, and represents the power of good to triumph over evil, a theme that has relevance for all of London's communities."
