Appeal to revellers over shooting
Gary Guthrie
Mr Guthrie lived half-a-mile from the scene of the shooting
Police investigating a fatal shooting want to speak to people who attended a birthday party at a nearby nightclub.

They believe "an incident" inside Starlight Rooms may have led to Monday's attack outside in Streatham High Road in south London.

Two friends, who were at the party, were taken to hospital with bullet wounds in the early hours.

Gary Guthrie, 35, from Streatham, died shortly after arriving. His friend remains in a comfortable condition.

Silver gun

Det Ch Insp Steve Horsley said: "We know both victims, who were friends, attended the party and it's possible that there was an incident there which led to the later attack, outside the venue, when the party closed and people started to leave.

"I need to hear from everyone who was at that party. It's possible you witnessed something without recognising it as significant."

He said there was not enough information at this stage to issue any descriptions of suspects.

Nine people arrested in connection with the shooting have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

A post-mortem examination found Mr Guthrie died as a result of a bullet wound to the chest.

Police have refused to discuss how many weapons were involved in the shooting.

But a large number of bullet casings littered the ground at the scene close to Streatham Station. At least one weapon, a silver handgun, was removed from the scene and was undergoing examination.
