A man has appeared in court accused of killing a South African rugby fan who was hit by a car while walking home after the World Cup final.

Hugh Morton, 34, died just hours after watching the game with his brother at a pub in Wimbledon, south-west London.

Mr Morton, of Raynes Park, south-west London, died at the scene.

Jimmy Katende, 28, of New Malden, south London, was charged with causing death while driving without due care and being under the influence of alcohol.

Mr Katende was remanded in custody by Wimbledon Magistrates' Court until a hearing at Kingston Crown Court on 8 January.

The collision happened at the junction of Kingston Road with Sandringham Avenue, near Wimbledon Chase station, in the early hours of Sunday.
