Nine people have been arrested following a fatal shooting on a high street in the early hours.
An eyewitness told police that several shots were fired at about 0520 BST in the vicinity of Streatham High Road in Streatham, south London.
"Two or more vehicles were seen leaving the area," a police spokeswoman said.
Two men were taken to hospital with bullet wounds where one of them, aged 35, died. Nine people are being questioned by detectives.
Gun recovered
Police said they have identified the dead man, who was taken to Mayday Hospital in Croydon, and have contacted his relatives.
The wounded man, aged in his 30s, remains in a serious condition in hospital.
A gun abandoned at the scene has been recovered by police and was undergoing analysis.
Det Ch Insp Steve Horsley said people leaving two nearby nightclubs may have seen the shooting.
Main thoroughfare
"There are two nightclubs in the vicinity of the ice rink and there could well have been people leaving them who may have seen something of the incident.
"It is a main thoroughfare in south London and it's possible there may have been people in the area - pedestrians, bus passengers or driving through, on their way to or from night work."
Streatham High Road has been closed in both directions between Gleneldon Road and the A214 while police carry out a search.
The shooting is being investigated by Operation Trident, which investigates gun crime in London's black communities.
