South Londoners are being asked whether the Northern Line should be split in two in a survey by the Conservatives.
Transport for London (TfL) is looking at the possibility of running one line from Morden to High Barnet and another from Kennington to Edgware.
TfL said the changes would allow more trains to run every hour and simplify the service, reducing disruption.
But the Tory party in Wandsworth claimed out of 2,000 responses so far about 75% were against the plans.
Mark Clarke from the Wandsworth Conservatives said their survey, which has been running for two weeks, showed the majority of people were "completely opposed to the idea".
He said: "People are worked up by it because when they change trains people know that introduces risk and uncertainty into their journey.
"The mayor and TfL are going ahead and investigating this proposal without talking to the people... about what they want."
A statement from TfL said: "No decisions have been made, and no funding is available in the current TfL investment programme, for the proposed decoupling of the Northern line.
"Longer term, the Northern line upgrade, including new tracks, signalling and more trains for passengers, is due for delivery by 2012."
