Mother held over toddler's death

Ms Galtricia was found next to her daughter's body in Barking
A mother has been arrested in hospital over the fatal stabbing of her two-year-old daughter.

Ntsimbi Galtricia, 23, was found next to the body of her daughter Trycia Balhous at their flat in Law House in Barking, east London, on 14 August.

The child had died from a stab wound to the chest. Her mother also had stab wounds and was taken to hospital.

Ms Galtricia had been arrested days before and accused of harassment, Barking and Dagenham Council said.

She was later released without charge.

The authority revealed it had declared Ms Galtricia fit enough to care for her daughter following an assessment by social services.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said on Monday: "A woman in her 20s has been arrested in connection with the inquiry."

Ms Galtricia remains in a stable condition in hospital.

An inquest into the girl's death was opened and adjourned at Walthamstow Coroner's Court on Monday.
