More dispersals zones for Camden
Police officers on the beat
Dispersal powers are used under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003
A dispersal zone tackling gangs of youths operating in parts of Camden has come into force.

The six-month operation gives police the power to break up gangs in the Cantelowes area, which includes the St Pancras Way estate.

The area has experienced problems including large-scale fights involving weapons, assaults and robbery.

There are six dispersal zones already running in Camden, covering areas including Covent Garden and Highgate.

Residents in Cantelowes have complained of groups urinating in council housing blocks, being noisy and intimidating residents.

Meric Apek, chair of the Cantelowes Safer Neighbourhood panel, said: "At the moment residents' lives are being made a misery by these groups of youths who think it's okay to intimidate and harass members of the public.

"We hope the dispersal notice will make their lives a misery for a change and show them that their behaviour is unacceptable."
