Staff at The Dorchester were praised for being attentive
The Dorchester Hotel has been named the best place in London to enjoy a spot of afternoon tea.

The five-star hotel in Park Lane, central London, was awarded the title by the UK Tea Council for its overall presentation of the traditional feast.

Anonymous inspectors who judged the tea rooms praised The Dorchester for its "attentive yet discreet service".

Afternoon tea at the hotel, comprising scones, finger sandwiches, pastries and hot drinks, costs 29.50.

Tea rooms across the city were judged on decor, range and quality of teas, atmosphere and value for money.

Irene Gorman, head of the Tea Guild which runs the annual awards, said: "The sumptuous elegance of The Promenade at The Dorchester sets a perfect theme for a very special afternoon tea."
