Council turns to wind for power
The wind turbine in Merton
There are five turbines on Merton's civic centre
A council has installed four wind turbines on its civic centre.

Merton Council in south London has said the power generated from the renewable source will be enough to run at least 100 computers.

A council spokesman said having the wind turbines showed Merton Council's commitment to preserving the planet.

In 2005, Camden Council in north London gave the go-ahead for five turbines to be installed on the town hall to power electrically-run pool cars.
