Policing across London has been increased following the latest terror threats to the UK.

Extra officers on patrol in the city have been ordered to make greater use of stop and search tactics under the Terrorism Act.

The rail network will also see extra patrols, as officers conduct random searches on cars approaching key mainline stations.

The UK has moved its terror alert level to the highest available - critical.

The critical threat level indicates terror attacks are "imminent".

A Met police spokesman said: "Enhanced policing in London continues throughout the weekend.

"We have conducted an immediate further review of policing plans in London to ensure that they are commensurate with the current threat level."

Increased searches

Policing plans for iconic sites and transport hubs are also under review.

The action follows an attack in Scotland on Saturday in which a burning car was driven into Glasgow Airport.

On Friday, police discovered two car bombs in central London. Both incidents are being linked.

In a further security move, the Metropolitan Police warned that those attending the Princess Diana memorial concert in Wembley would experience delays due to increased searches.

About 450 officers will police the event.
