Four leading criminal profilers have been enlisted to help identify a sex attacker dubbed "UK's most wanted man" by detectives.

Police have spent eight years hunting the rapist and burglar, thought to have a sexual fixation with the elderly.

The man has been linked to four rapes and 24 other sexual assaults during 98 break-ins in London since 1990.

An "amazingly detailed picture" of the man has been produced and will be shown on Crimewatch, police said.

Unique profile

Det Insp Nick Chalmers said the attacker could be a man who not even neighbours or close family would recognise as a criminal.

"The appeal is a unique profile of the UK's most wanted man," he said.

He added the attacks had been reinvestigated and several important new clues had been found.

"For example, the fact that he may ride a motorcycle and almost certainly has a regular job," he said.

The attacks have been concentrated in south-east London, inclduing areas of Shirley, Forest Hill, Orpington, Coulsdon and Warlingham.

A reward of £40,000 has been offered for information leading to the attacker's arrest and conviction.

He is described as a black man, with a well-spoken soft voice, in his late 30s, and with an athletic build.

Forensic investigations in America have shown he originates from the Windward Islands in the Caribbean.

The new appeal will be broadcast on BBC's Crimewatch programme on Monday 27 November.
