The best performing forces included Staffordshire and Northumbria
The Metropolitan Police has made a "substantial improvement" in its delivery, senior officer have claimed.

The Met improved in six out of seven categories including investigating crimes and local policing, according to the latest Home Office figures.

The best performing forces included Staffordshire and Northumbria.

All 43 police forces in England and Wales were ranked in seven categories including reducing crime, investigating crime and promoting safety.

BEST AND WORST
BEST: Staffordshire, Northumbria, City of London, Dorset, Dyfed-Powys, Hertfordshire, Lancashire, Leicestershire, North Wales, Surrey, West Yorkshire
WORST: Humberside, Northants, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Bedfordshire, Cleveland, Warwickshire

The other categories were providing help, citizen focus, which included community confidence in the police, resource use and local policing.

They were rated either excellent, good, fair or poor.

Commander Simon Foy, Head of Performance at the Met said: "These results, together with our recent crime figures and findings from independent public attitude surveys, show we are moving in the right direction."

"Ultimately what this means is a better service for Londoners."
