Police have released CCTV images of the moment a 12-year-old girl was sent somersaulting in the air as she was hit by a car.

Swimming champion Jodie Momodu, a pupil at Barking Abbey Lower School in Essex, was hit by a Mitsubishi Shogun as she left school at lunchtime on 14 July.

She suffered pelvic injuries, cuts and bruising during the incident which was witnessed by pupils and parents.

One man who was arrested over the incident has been released on bail.

Pelvic injuries

Police have issued the CCTV footage in a bid to discover information.

Witnesses said two men ran from the 4x4, leaving two others inside the car, but officers are trying to find out exactly who was driving.

Jodie has held the borough record for breaststroke for the past three years and is the current Essex and South East Counties Champion.

She is still receiving treatment for her pelvic injuries but is now back swimming after recovering from the accident.
