Police are continuing to search for two teenagers after a man was stabbed to death as he walked his girlfriend home.

Paul McMillan, 19, was attacked near his home in Dagenham, east London, on Wednesday night. He died from a stab wound to the chest.

Detectives said he had gone out to make sure his girlfriend got home safely.

A teenager arrested on Sunday over the murder has been released on bail. Police still want to speak to two teenagers seen in the area at the time.

Knife and cosh

Two people were seen in Bonham Road shortly after the attack happened in Valence Avenue, at the junction with Wood Road, at about 2200 BST.

The first was described as white, in his late teens or early 20s, 6ft tall, with short dark hair. He wore a navy blue tracksuit top, possibly with a hood, and Nike logo on the side.

The second suspect was of similar age, 5ft 10in tall, with short blond hair, and was wearing a dark grey tracksuit with diagonal stripes on the bottoms from the knee down.

Police said the pair were thought to be armed with a knife and a cosh.

Hardworking

Det Ch Insp Damian Allain said: "Paul was a hardworking young man who was very well known locally and incredibly popular.

"He was attacked and fatally stabbed as he walked from his home address with his girlfriend because he wanted to make sure she returned home safely.

"At this early stage we do not believe that the two men involved knew Paul and we would like anyone with information about the incident to contact us."
