Thousands take part in 10km run

About 30,000 people participated in the run
About 30,000 people, led by marathon runner Paula Radcliffe and London 2012 Organising Committee Chairman Lord Coe, have taken part in a charity run.

The 10km event, Run London, was held within Hyde Park.

The runners were divided into North and South teams - to represent either bank of the river Thames - to find the fastest and fittest side.

The south, led by Lord Coe, won, with an average speed of 56 minutes and nine seconds.

The two teams began the run at separate points within the park, before merging for the last leg of the run.

After his team's victory, Lord Coe said: "Run London is a great way to promote running in the capital ahead of 2012 .

"The South gave it their all, and should be proud of their determination and dedication and we now know the South is the best," he said.

Six-months pregnant Ms Radcliffe said it was a battle to the end.

"Although we may not be the fastest, the North will always be the best," she said.

This is the sixth year for the race and the funds raised this year will go to Fairbridge, an inner city youth charity, organisers said.
