A 22-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of former Harrods sales assistant Egeli Rasta.

Garath Davies, of Mitcham, was held in custody after the hearing at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court. He will next appear at the Old Bailey on 24 October.

Miss Rasta, 27, was last seen on 4 July as she left her Mitcham flat in south London apparently to set off for a jog.

Scientific experts have been examining a body on Mitcham Common, although it has yet to be formally identified.

Mr Davies has also been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Miss Rasta, originally from Estonia, has lived in the UK for two years.

She was reported missing on 8 July after failing to keep appointments with her recruitment agency and a friend.

She had worked at Harrods through the agency and did a shift there the day before she was last seen.
