Lido unveils huge aquatic mirror
Tooting Bec Lido
The mirrors will be in the lido until the end of July
A huge underwater mirror has been fitted at the Tooting Bec Lido in south London to celebrate its centenary.

It is 50m long and one metre wide and made of acrylic sheets lining the floor of the 91m basin, one of England's largest outdoor pools.

The artwork by Steve Carey, called Slice, was commissioned by the Lido's South London Swimming Club.

A film festival featuring a giant screen will take place during the Lido's centenary weekend from 28 July.

"It's a personal response to the light and space of the Lido and the enforced introspection of swimming long distances," said artist Mr Carey.

Slice will be in the Lido until the end of July.

The three-day festival will feature a water-themed programme of films, such as Frank Perry's 1968 classic the Swimmer, and short productions.
