Debate focuses on global warming

Nicky Gavron will be speaking at the debate
Climate change and the effect cities have on global warming will be discussed at this year's State of London Debate.

Experts on the topic from around the world will lead the discussion at the QEII Conference Centre, in Westminster, central London, on Saturday.

They will look at solutions and the way cities can help to combat the problem.

London's mayor Ken Livingstone will open the debate and London Olympics chairman Lord Coe will speak.

Other speakers include: Dr Vandana Shiva, the director of the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Ecology; Professor Zou Ji of the Renmin University of China and Stephen Tindale, executive director of Greenpeace.

The Deputy Mayor Nicky Gavron, who is responsible for environmental policy in London will also speak.

The event is chaired by Channel 4 news reader Samira Ahmed.
