On the morning of 7 July, Jonathan Downey, 34, left his home in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, with his wife Veronica for his daily commute to London.

They said their final goodbye and parted at Euston, where he took the westbound Circle Line train and he died in the Edgware Road blast.

He was on his way to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, where he worked as a human resources systems development officer.

Councillor Merrick Cockell, the leader of the council, said: "Jon had been a member of the personnel team for over four years.

"He was a very friendly and approachable person and very knowledgeable and skilled at his work.

"Everyone who knew Jon and who worked with him, will miss him enormously."

Mr Downey was the youngest of a family of five, who spent a happy and fulfilled childhood in Corby, Northamptonshire.

'Caring and considerate'

He attended the Pope John Catholic School and before his job in London, he had worked for Corby borough council in the finance department.

It is believed he moved to Milton Keynes about 18 months ago.

A family statement said: "He was a kind, caring, considerate and supportive son, husband and friend.

"His career was developing successfully as HR Systems Development Officer with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

"He will be sorely missed by his wife, family and many friends."
