An Old Bailey jury has cleared a man of murdering two people who were shot with the same bullet at a party.

Martin Harvey, 43, of no fixed address, denied being involved in killing Ashley Kenton, 22, and Wayne Mowatt, 26, in Hackney, east London, in January 2002.

Mr Kenton was shot through the neck, before the bullet passed through a partition wall and killed Mr Mowatt.

Iain Davis, from Brixton, south London, got two life sentences for the murders after being found guilty in 2004.

Trouble had flared at the New Year party when Davis tried to stop people leaving the flat.

Mr Kenton, who had been the DJ at the party, pushed Davis away when he tried to punch him.

A gun was passed to Davis as the row continued and he shot Mr Kenton, severing an artery in his neck.

The bullet then went through wall and hit Mr Mowatt in the head.
