Homes evacuated after garage fire
Hundreds of people have been forced to spend the night away from their homes after a fire at a garage.

Up to 300 properties in Hammersmith, west London, have been evacuated and the area sealed off to allow cylinders inside the garage to cool.

Residents are not being allowed into houses in Springvale Terrace, Blythe Road, Masbro Road and Redan Street.

Temporary accommodation has been set up in Masbro Road community centre for anyone affected by the evacuation.

Evacuation 'precautionary'

No-one is thought to have been injured in the fire which broke out at about 1545 GMT on Thursday in the Springvale Terrace workshop.

An investigation team visited the scene to try to discover the cause of the fire and crews are still there working to cool the cylinders down.

A spokeswoman for Hammersmith and Fulham Council said the evacuation was precautionary and urged people not to panic.

"We would encourage residents to stay with family or friends if possible but if not, to go straight to the community centre," she said.

St Mary's Primary School in Masbro Road will be closed on Friday.

The cordon is expected to stay in place for 24 hours.
