A body part found in a north London canal is the torso of a man who had been stabbed to death, police said.
It was spotted in Regents Canal, in the Primrose Hill area of Regents Park, by a passer-by on Friday evening.
A post-mortem examination was held at Westminster Mortuary on Saturday and more tests are being carried out to establish the man's age and race.
The torso, which was inside a bin bag in a shopping bag, had been in the water for up to 10 days.
The canal, between London Zoo and Lisson Grove, has been cordoned off while police divers search it.
The shopping bag was tartan on one side and black on the other.
Police say they want to hear from anyone who saw a person or people wheeling a shopping bag on a trolley along the canal within the past week and a half.
