Labour has snatched back a council seat in east London from the far right British National Party.
The win by candidate Warren Northover at Goresbrook, in the borough of Barking and Dagenham, removes the BNP's only representation in the city.
Mr Northover won with a 436 majority in a ward where Labour were defeated in an earlier by-election last September.
It is the BNP's first by-election seat loss. In Burnley, another BNP councillor resigned.
