Jean Charles de Menezes
Jean Charles de Menezes was shot at Stockwell Tube
Relatives of a man who was shot dead by police after being mistaken for a suicide bomber have attended a memorial Mass to mark his 28th birthday.

Jean Charles de Menezes was killed at Stockwell Tube station on 22 July - the day after failed bomb attacks. An inquiry is under way.

His parents have returned to his native Brazil, but relatives and friends attended the service.

The service was held at St Anne's Church in Spitalfields, east London.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating Mr Menezes's death, and has said the officers involved could face charges.

His parents flew over to Britain from Rio to visit the scene of his death and launch the Justice 4 Jean campaign. A reading was due to be given on their behalf at Saturday's event.

Alistair Alexander, from the campaign, told BBC London: "At the moment we are waiting for the IPCC report which will be at the end of January.

"I think that's the main thing the family are looking forward to. They really hope the IPCC will be available to deliver some kind of clarity as to what really happened and there will be some kind of legal process that comes from that."

The Metropolitan Police has described Mr Menezes's death as a "tragedy" and has accepted full responsibility for the shooting.
