Burst water pipe closes main road
A water main has burst closing a section one of London's busiest roads.

The 36 inch pipe ruptured in Edgware Road, north London, on Wednesday evening, flooding nearby properties and leaving others without water supplies.

About a foot of standing water was left in Edgware Road which is closed between Harrow Road and Hall Road. It will remain shut for several days.

Thames Water said the affected pipe was isolated in the early hours and the water supplies should now be restored.

A spokesman said they had received 26 calls relating to flooding, lack of water supply and reduced water pressure.

He said engineers were on site but it was not known how long it would take to repair the pipe.

Diversion routes have been put in place but some disruption is expected for motorists.
