A man thought to have stabbed his partner to death and then thrown himself in front of a train has been named by police.

The body of Jamie Birtwistle, 34, from Mortlake, south-west London, was found on a rail line near Mortlake station on Thursday night.

Earlier police found the body of a woman in her late 20s in the kitchen of the property on Carlton Road.

Post-mortem tests revealed Mr Birtwistle died from multiple injuries.

Police were called to the house at 2245 BST on Thursday following reports of a disturbance.

Shortly afterwards British Transport Police said a man had apparently thrown himself in front of a train on its way from Waterloo to Richmond.

Police confirmed no-one else was being sought in connection with the deaths.
