A man is thought to have stabbed his partner to death and then thrown himself in front of a train.

The man's body was found close to Mortlake Station, in south west London, as police found the body of a woman at the home they shared in the area.

A police spokesman it appeared to be a domestic incident and no one else was being sought in connection with her death on Thursday night.

He said the man's death was not being treated as suspicious.

Suspicious death

Police were called to the house in Carlton Road, Mortlake, at 2245 BST following reports of a disturbance.

A spokesman said: "We found the body of a woman in her late 20s in the kitchen.

"Her death is being treated as suspicious, she appears to have been stabbed."

British Transport Police said the man, aged in his mid 30s, had apparently thrown himself in front of a train on its way from Waterloo to Richmond.

Post-mortem tests are due to be carried out on the couple, who have not been identified.
