A man has been shot twice as he went to investigate a loud bang outside his home in south-east London.
The 48-year-old opened his front door onto Bexley High Street, where he spotted a brick. But as he reached down to pick it up, a gunman fired at him.
The victim is said to be in a stable condition following the shooting on Saturday night in Old Bexley.
Police described the suspect as black and dressed in a blue hooded coat, baggy jeans, trainers and a woolly hat.
Adrian Rose, who lives locally, told BBC News Old Bexley was closed off for almost two hours as armed police searched for the gunman.
"It's a bit of a shock. It's a very nice area - just a normal London suburb and things like this are very rare," he said.
