Man remanded on axe murder charge

A waiter has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man killed in an axe attack in north-west London.

Joseph Sheehan, 37, of Belmont Street, Camden, north London, was remanded in custody by Highbury Corner magistrates on Wednesday.

He is due to appear at the Old Bailey on 23 March.

The body of Brian Messitt, 67, from Hampstead, north-west London, was found in Eton Avenue, Swiss Cottage, at 0940 GMT on Monday.

A post-mortem examination revealed he had died from severe head injuries.
