The new Wembley Arena is due to open next year
A 10,000-seater temporary music arena built next to the new Wembley Stadium is to open for its first performance.

The £4m Wembley Arena Pavilion in north London will host concerts and events throughout the year as Wembley Arena undergoes a £32m refurbishment.

The revamp, which began last month, is part of the overall development of the Wembley complex which is due to be completed by 2006.

X Factor Live on Sunday will be the first performance at the Pavilion.

1930s architecture

As part of the refurbishment the entrance to the arena will be reoriented, creating a triple height façade overlooking the new Arena Square.

Wembley Arena will be totally transformed with design features echoing the building's original 1930s architecture and upgraded modern facilities for both audiences and artists.

The nearby Wembley Stadium is undergoing a £757m redevelopment and is due to open for the FA Cup final in May 2006.

The surrounding area will offer new shops, hotels, bars, restaurants, cafes, a major multi screen cinema, offices and homes.
