Display keeps boat users informed
River Thames in London
Each boat has a receiver fitted
A system to let Thames River Boat users know how the service is running - as seen on other parts of London's transport network - is being launched.

The eleven piers the boats run from are fitted with real-time displays which show when the next boat is due as well as its destinations.

Each boat has a receiver fitted to it to give accurate timings.

About 12,000 commuters travel on the Thames each week and the system could be extended to leisure services.

The Automated vessel Location System (AVLS) will run on the Thames Clippers commuter route and the service between the Tate Modern and Tate Britain.
