Heated bus shelters for shoppers

Bus users can enjoy a winter warmer this Christmas with the introduction of heated shelters.

Ten shelters across central London are being transformed to create a home from home for passengers while they wait for their bus.

Believed to be the first of their kind in the UK, they are designed to look like a living room with heaters, a fire and Christmas carols playing.

Ten shelters will also be introduced in Manchester, Nottingham and Glasgow.

The shelters will be in place throughout December and use sound, heat and movement to engage shoppers while they wait for their buses.

Each shelter has a fireplace with moving flames, a heater and an audio device playing Christmas carols.

Charlie Herbert, from British Gas, the company behind the idea, said they hoped the bus shelters would provide a haven for chilly shoppers.

"The run-up to Christmas is the perfect time to introduce the shelters while many people are braving the cold to do their Christmas shopping."
