Christmas postal strike averted
Postman collecting mail from a post box
Royal Mail managment said it worked hard with the unions
Royal Mail workers will not be striking in London over Christmas after an agreement was reached with a union.

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) was calling for strikes in a row over payment for overtime needed in the run-up to the festive period.

Speaking to BBC London Rob Jenson, area general manager for Royal Mail, said there would be no industrial action in the UK capital over Christmas.

A CWU spokesman said a "satisfactory" conclusion had been reached.

No demands

"The issue of overtime has been resolved and a letter has been sent out to all staff today (Thursday)."

Mr Jenson said Royal Mail had worked hard with the unions to find sensible arrangements and sensible agreements.

The union had claimed staff were being forced to work on their days off.

The Royal Mail said the CWU was asking for extra pay for overtime that may not be needed and no demands were being made in any other part of the country.
