Tunnel closures until Christmas
The Blackwall Tunnel will continue to be closed overnight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights until Christmas while repair work continues.

The tunnel will be closed from 2100 to 0800 from Friday and Saturday and from 2100 to 0600 on Monday morning.

The tunnel's southbound lane will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday nights from 2100 to 0600.

The Southbound Refurbishment Scheme, overseen by Transport For London (TFL), includes testing of new safety systems.

TFL says the new systems - part of a £15.4m upgrade - need to be tested in a completely closed tunnel.

It says the work is being carried out at night to keep disruption at a minimum.

The work is expected to extend the life of the tunnel's southbound lane by 30 years.

Essential repairs are also being made to the A12 Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach at the junction between the East India Dock Road and Bow Road from Monday.

TFL's director of road operations Keith Ollier said the repairs would keep disruption to a minimum.

Closures

"These unavoidable repairs to the Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach must take place as soon as possible, but will be largely completed overnight and at weekends, with minimal lane closures during the week," he said.

Northbound, there will be full road closures from 0600 Saturday until 0500 Monday over the weekends of 30 October - 1 November, 6 - 8 November and 20 - 22 November and lane closures during the week.

Southbound, there will be lane closures, which will reduce capacity to one lane, during the week only between 1000 and 15.30 and again between 1950 and 0500.

Traffic wishing to access the A12 prior to the junction with the A406 are advised to use the A13 westbound, A1205 northbound and the A11 eastbound to the A12.

Traffic wishing to access the A12 beyond its junction with the A406 should use the A13 eastbound and the A406 northbound to the A12.
